About Vispring

The Vispring journey began in 1899 with British engineer James Marshall. His wife was taken ill, so James created her a hand-made supportive mattress including coiled springs, now known as pocket springs, encased within muslin. At the time, this was a revelation in comfort.

A little later in 1901, Vispring came to life. John Nolon and Frederick James began creating the perfect night's sleep, utilizing the innovative coiled spring technology, combined with horsehair and unbleached muslin. This was a monumental upgrade in quality and hygiene compared to the current standard of mattresses.

By 1911, word of these high quality, bespoke mattresses had spread across the country. At the time, cruise liners were the way to travel. This is where Vispring first started taking major orders. Their mattress fitted perfectly in the opulent cabins and suites of the world’s finest ships like the Titanic and Olympic.

As the years went by, Vispring's reputation continued to grow, they started experimenting with new mattress fillings. Introducing natural materials like horsehair, pure cotton and shetland wool. This led to them creating the world's first pocket-sprung divan. This was quickly known as the ultimate sleeping experience.

In 2012 Vispring was awarded the honor of receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. This further enhances their reputation as one of the leading mattress manufacturers in the world. BWMB Certified Wool

Using only the finest quality British materials, Vispring sources their wool directly from BWMB certified sheep farmers. The BWMB is owned by approximately 35,000 sheep farmers in the UK. They collect, grade, market and sell British wool on behalf of our producers to the international wool textile industry for use in flooring, furnishings and apparel.

Wool that has been through their grading system is quality assured and fit for purpose. Products bearing our distinctive logo of the shepherd’s crook and Union Jack are British wool rich - a mark that consumers can trust.

Vispring produces their own pocket springs of the highest quality manufactured in the finest Vanadium Steel. Each spring is placed into a natural cotton calico pocket and hand nested into a honeycomb pattern increasing the breathability through the mattress whilst still offering elite levels of comfort, strength and support.
